The historic victory made Sindhu the first Indian shuttler to claim the prestigious title and marked her biggest triumph since winning the World Championships in 2019.
Tokyo, July 19 (Vishwamnews) : Indian badminton star and two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu produced one of her finest performances in recent years to clinch the Japan Open Super 750 title, defeating local favourite and three-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-17 in the final on Sunday.
With the victory, Sindhu became the first Indian player to win the Japan Open, ending a title drought of more than two years and announcing her return to the top tier of world badminton. The triumph is also her biggest achievement since capturing the World Championship crown in 2019.
Facing a formidable opponent in front of a passionate home crowd, Sindhu displayed vintage form, combining powerful smashes, precise net play and tactical discipline to dominate the contest. KTR: Shekhar Memorial Awards Inspire Artists, Promoting Art is Society’s Responsibility
Hyderabad, July 19 (Vishwamnews) : BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) said that encouraging art and recognizing talented artists is a collective responsibility of society. He was speaking at the Cartoonist Shekhar Memorial Awards–2026 presentation ceremony held at the Press Club in Somajiguda, Hyderabad.
On the occasion, cartoonist M. Naru received the award in the Cartoon category, while artist Kurella Srinivas was honoured in the Art category. KTR presented the awards to the winners and congratulated them for their contributions.
Addressing the gathering, KTR said that amidst the daily political battles and criticism that come with public life, participating in literary and cultural events offers a refreshing experience. He noted that opportunities to interact with artists, writers, poets and painters are rare and often bring back memories of the Telangana movement and its spirit.
Highlighting the importance of cartoonists, KTR recalled the saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” and said cartoons play a powerful role in reflecting society and politics. He praised legendary Indian cartoonist R.K. Laxman and said he personally admired Bill Watterson’s globally popular Calvin and Hobbes. He also appreciated the work of Telugu cartoonists such as Eenadu Sridhar and Sakshi Shankar.
KTR observed that the values and principles of Mahatma Gandhi are more relevant today than ever before. He emphasized that religious beliefs are personal and that mutual respect among people is essential for a harmonious society.

Speaking about public life, he said victories and defeats are a natural part of politics and that the primary responsibility of elected representatives is to work for the welfare of the people, regardless of whether they are in power or opposition.
Praising the organizers, KTR said the efforts of Shekhar’s family members and friends in conducting the memorial awards for the past six years were commendable. He described Shekhar as a distinguished cartoonist who made significant contributions over nearly two decades and whose work on contemporary issues earned widespread recognition.
KTR particularly recalled Shekhar’s cartoons during the Telangana movement, saying they played an important role in inspiring people and keeping the movement’s spirit alive. Although he never had the opportunity to meet Shekhar personally, KTR said he was deeply moved by the story of the cartoonist visiting Gun Park despite severe illness to witness the passage of the Telangana Bill.
KTR also assured support for organizing the Shekhar Memorial Awards on a much larger scale from next year. He suggested that the event could be shifted from the Press Club to Ravindra Bharathi and promised all possible assistance to make it a grand celebration of art and creativity.

Farmers March Demanding Release of Kaleshwaram Waters
Hyderabad, July 19 (Vishwamnews) : Thousands of farmers, accompanied by BRS leaders, participated in a padayatra (foot march) from Annapurna Sagar to Ranganayaka Sagar under the leadership of former minister and MLA T. Harish Rao, demanding the lifting of water from the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and filling of reservoirs to ensure irrigation supply to agricultural lands.
The participants urged the government to immediately pump water from the Kaleshwaram project into various reservoirs and release irrigation water for farmers. A large number of farmers joined the march, highlighting concerns over water availability for the ongoing agricultural season and calling for swift action to safeguard crop cultivation.
The rally witnessed significant participation, with protesters emphasizing the importance of timely water release to support farming activities and protect the livelihoods of agricultural communities across the region.
Rajgopal Reddy Highlights Internal Party Rift
Hyderabad, July 19 (Vishwamnews) : Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy has alleged that original Congress leaders in Telangana are facing discrimination from leaders who joined the party from other political outfits. Speaking to the media after meeting TPCC Working President T. Jagga Reddy on Saturday, Rajgopal Reddy claimed that loyal Congress workers and leaders were being sidelined, harassed, and denied party positions in several constituencies, including Tungaturthy and Nakrekal
He said leaders who worked to bring the Congress to power in the State were being neglected, while turncoat leaders were allegedly dominating local party affairs. Rajgopal Reddy also expressed concern over reports of police cases being filed against loyal Congress workers and warned that leaders who had switched parties in the past could do so again in the future.

Hyderabad, July 19 (Vishwamnews) : T he death of a young software engineer in Hyderabad has taken a startling and mysterious turn, with police and disaster response teams searching for a temple idol that investigators believe could hold crucial clues to the case The deceased, identified as Tejaswini, was found dead after allegedly jumping into a pond under unusual circumstances. According to the preliminary investigation, the woman is believed to have removed her clothes before entering a nearby temple, where she reportedly picked up an idol of Goddess Ammavaru. Police suspect that she then walked to a nearby pond carrying the idol and entered the water.
While rescue teams later recovered Tejaswini’s body from the pond, the idol she allegedly carried remains missing. Investigators believe its recovery could provide important evidence in reconstructing the sequence of events leading up to her death.
In a significant development, the Disaster Response Force (DRF) has launched an extensive search operation in the pond. Sravan Dasoju Launches Broadside Against CM Revanth Reddy
Hyderabad, July 19 (Vishwamnews) : Escalating the political confrontation between the ruling Congress and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), BRS MLC Dr. Sravan Dasoju on Saturday launched a blistering attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of politicising Telangana’s cultural icons, misleading the public on employment generation, weakening the State’s economy, and diverting attention from governance failures through political rhetoric.
Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, Sravan alleged that the Chief Minister had transformed the inauguration ceremony of renowned Telangana poet and lyricist Andesri’s Smruthi Vanam into a political platform to target BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and the opposition. According to him, a programme meant to honour one of Telangana’s most respected literary figures should have been used to inspire future generations and celebrate the State’s cultural heritage rather than serve as a venue for political attacks.
Sravan said that Telangana’s literary and cultural icons, including Andesri and the late revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, belonged to the people of Telangana and should not be used for political mileage. He alleged that the Chief Minister’s remarks at the event were inappropriate and failed to reflect the significance of the occasion.
The BRS leader also objected to comments made by Revanth Reddy regarding KCR, claiming that the Congress government was attempting to undermine the contributions of the former Chief Minister to Telangana’s formation and development. He asserted that KCR had played a historic role in the Telangana movement and that attempts to diminish that legacy would not be accepted by the people.
Questions Changes to Telangana Anthem
Sravan further alleged that the State government had altered the original spirit of the Telangana anthem “Jaya Jayahe Telangana,” written by Andesri. He claimed that the anthem had been given due recognition during the BRS regime and accused the Congress government of modifying its presentation for political purposes. Challenges Govt on Employment Figures
A major portion of Sravan’s criticism was directed at the government’s claim of providing 70,000 jobs since coming to power. He alleged that the majority of these appointments stemmed from recruitment notifications, examinations, and selection processes initiated during the previous BRS administration.
Claiming that the Congress government was taking credit for work completed by its predecessor, Sravan challenged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to a public debate on employment generation. He invited the Chief Minister to discuss the issue before unemployed youth and students, arguing that the actual number of fresh jobs created by the present government was far lower than what was being projected.
He further alleged that unemployed youth had been misled through exaggerated employment claims and demanded that the government release a detailed breakdown of appointments made since assuming office.
Concerns Over Investment Climate
The BRS MLC also raised concerns over what he described as the deterioration of Telangana’s investment environment under the Congress government. He claimed that investor confidence had weakened and that industrial investments were slowing down Sravan alleged that the once highly regarded TS-iPASS (Telangana State Industrial Project Approval and Self-Certification System), introduced during the BRS regime to facilitate faster industrial clearances, had been weakened under the current administration. He argued that delays and administrative inefficiencies were discouraging investors and impacting employment generation According to him, Telangana had earned a reputation as one of India’s most investor-friendly destinations during the BRS government, but that advantage was now being eroded
Questions Financial Management
Criticising the State’s financial management, Sravan questioned the Congress government’s claims of working tirelessly for the State’s development. He said that despite repeated assertions by ministers about their hard work, Telangana was facing significant revenue challenges
He pointed to concerns regarding welfare expenditure, infrastructure spending, and fiscal management, alleging that the government had failed to maintain the economic momentum achieved during the previous administration. He demanded greater transparency regarding the State’s financial position and called upon the government to present a clear picture of revenue generation and expenditure.
BRS to Prepare Department-Wise Charge Sheets
Warning of an aggressive opposition campaign in the coming months, Sravan announced that the BRS would prepare detailed “charge sheets” on the functioning of various government departments. He said the party would scrutinise the performance of the Congress government on issues ranging from welfare schemes and employment to infrastructure development and industrial growth.
The BRS leader claimed that the opposition would expose what it viewed as unfulfilled promises and administrative shortcomings of the government. He asserted that public accountability was essential and that the Congress administration would be questioned on every major commitment made to the people before the elections.
Calls for Focus on Governance
Concluding his remarks, Sravan urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to focus on governance and implementation of electoral promises rather than engaging in political attacks against opposition leaders. He maintained that the people of Telangana were more concerned about employment, welfare, agriculture, industrial development, and economic growth than political rhetoric.
Stating that public welfare and development should remain the government’s foremost priorities, the BRS MLC said the State needed constructive governance and policy-driven administration to address the challenges facing Telangana and fulfil the aspirations of its citizens.
